Beaird Productions is a screen production company founded by Sydney/Eora-based filmmakers Nick Elliott-Pimm and Zooey Gao.
Nick and Zooey have extensive experience in producing documentaries, dramas and commercials.
We know that the life of every ordinary person is filled with incredible stories. We are passionate about bringing these stories to the screen, using a combination of modern technology and traditional forms of photography and filmmaking.
Our joint skills in screenwriting, video editing, camera & lighting, colour, stop-motion animation, VFX, photography and unique cultural backgrounds bring stories to life.

Nick is a film generalist for our creative projects. He graduated in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, UK where his student film was awarded 'Critics Choice'. He has produced surreal stop-motion animations in collaboration with local music composers and produced abstract, symbolic short films. His recent experimental short Facsimile explored complexities of identity, inspired by Zooey’s struggles in becoming integrated into Australian society. In this short, a photocopier washes out the performer's unique personality, leaving just blank paper.
Nick’s work focuses on the surreal and metaphysical, often focusing on the vertigo created by feedback loops and fractal recursion. He embraces old film technologies such as CRT screens and VHS. He incorporates old film forms to live AV performances - such as contemporary dance/film installation Passing, made with Zooey, where dance performances highlighted the passage of time and were screened on smartphones, CRT screens and projectors.
Nick’s favourite cockatoo is Snow White.
Zooey is a film editor and producer, whose skills as an editor have been recognised many times in her career. Her recent independent documentary Unsynchronised won Best Editor awards at Madrid International Short Film Festival in 2023, Toronto Indie Filmmakers Festival, LA Indies Festival, LA Sun Film Fest and Rome World Cinema Fest and Best Documentary at Setting Sun Film Festival in 2024. She was awarded 2 Best Editor awards at Sydney Film School Festival (Steenbeck and Avid).
Editing is an art form that is frequently undervalued. Her films put editing at the forefront - calling back to the lost art of editing celluloid film on Steenbeck. Her early films were edited in this way until the edit suite she used was dismantled and sold. Her work explores celluloid and film photography as physical forms of memory. The idea of memory is unpacked - beautiful photographs and artefacts carry comforting nostalgia, but behind the nostalgia are buried memories of abuse from childhood.
As with many abuse survivors, the darkness of the past distorts everything, even if it lies hidden behind a facade of serenity.
Her favourite cockatoo is Bear.
